ABOUT THE ARTIST

Catherina Zavodnik - CV (ENGL)

The paintings and graphics of Catherina Zavodnik are like a theater of memories in space and time. As a palimpsest they rediscover the secrets of old, forgotten and blurred records in the field of modern technology. The fragile and gracious consistency of expression gives us to understand that they are brilliant creations and the product of absolute dedication, research, aestheticism, experiences and desire.

Catherina Zavodnik (6 September 1975, Ljubljana) holds a Master’s Degree in Painting (2008), a Master’s in Traditional Graphic Art (printmaking) (2003) , and Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design (2000) at Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts and Design. Between 2000 and 2004 she upgraded her graphics knowledge in Urbino, Italy.

Catherina represented Slovenia in Monaco at one of the most prestigious cultural events organised by the Principality. Between 24 and 27 April, Art Monaco 2014 opened its doors to all lovers of art, art collectors, media representatives, art critics and highly-esteemed personalities of the world of art, who were able to admire modern and contemporary art in various media. Catherina Zavodnik was invited to Monaco by the Canadian artist Mona Youssef, and showcased Miss Monet, a digital painting on plexiglass, under the auspices of the Mona Youssef Art Gallery.

Invited by Global Art Agency, in april 2013, she participated at the major  collective art exhibition Barcelona Showcase with 150 selected top emerging and well-established artists from around the world. The opening took place at Casa battlo, Barcelona.

In october 2013 she again participated with Global Art Agency at a huge art exhibition Vienna Showcase with 150 top selected artists from around the world.

The work from her opus Ripatriarsi-Tribute to Da Vinci, My Face is the prison of Love has been recently juried into the Manhattan Arts International "Celebrate the Healing Power of ART" online exhibition, on the theme "Positive Art That Lifts The Spirit". Catherina´s work was one of just 44 works chosen by the jurors from more than 800 entries submitted by artists in 24 countries. (Jurors: Nancy Reyner (artist/author/instructor), Edward Rubin (NY based arts writer/curator, Renee Phillips (Director, Manhattan Arts International/author).

After having been accepted to the most prestigious public call of artists in Northern Europe with her painting September among more than 3000 works of art from the entire world, namely to the Forårsudstillingen/Spring Exhibition 2011 in Kunsthal Charlottenborg (Copenhagen, Denmark), Catherina continues her artistic path with a different, much more feminine and subtle energy. Northern light left her a dream. Beauty, poetics and seduction.
Her painting was also included into the collection for sale at Kunstbiblioteket, the Art Library in the same city. Since november 2011 is in a private collection in Copenhagen, Denmark.

In Slovenia and abroad she participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions, recently 8th International Printmaking Biennial Douro 2016, Portugalska 2016, 5. In her works of art the terms such as the feminine, the mystic, the exciting and the primeval are touched. Her painting spaces are pure endlessness and unidentified dualities, which seem both new beginnings and ends at the same time. Of a waving nature in their scope, but simultaneously “left alone” in the moment.

Similarities with historical examples are thus subconsciously made advantage of, helping her to discover a specific continuity in her own understanding of thinking that is experienced during painting. She comprehensively interweave all of her artistic passions and knowledge into the planning and execution of her visual art projects. Various creative techniques democratically take part in her visual art expression. Her work is characterized by a high-level of poeticism and aesthetisation. In her works she strive for purity, light and affection.

Catherina´s projects incorporate: painting, graphics, writing, poetry, photography, dance, video, sculpture, concepts and objects.

Her paintings and graphics adorn the homes and business premises of many well-known Slovenians, athletes, economists, and numerous art lovers all over the world.

Since 2002 she has been a member of Ljubljana Fine Artists Society (since 2011 also PR editor for their Facebook group) and a registered independent artist at Slovenian Ministry of Culture, till august 2014 when she interrups the status. In october 2015 she stops being a member of DLUL and becomes a member of Likovno društvo Kranj.

Catherina Zavodnik - CV (SLO)

V svojih delih stremi k neomadeževanosti, svetlobi in ljubečnosti.

Catherina deluje na področju: slikarstva, grafike, pisanja, poezije, plesa, fotografije, videa, kiparstva, konceptov in objektov.
Njene slike in grafike krasijo domove in poslovne prostore številnih znanih Slovencev, športnikov, ekonomistov in številnih ljubiteljev umetnosti po vsem svetu.

Od leta 2002 je članica DLUL in registrirana samostojna ustvarjalka na področju kulture (Ministrstvo za kulturo) do avgusta 2014, ko prekine status pri MK. Oktobra 2015 prestopi iz DLUL v Likovno društvo Kranj.
